A Multidisciplinary Indian Fine Artist, Entrepreneur & Educator

" I have done my bachelors from Sir J. J. School of Arts, Mumbai and masters from M. S. University, Baroda in fine arts. There I learnt various traditional mediums of art. As some of my works demanded specific mediums for certain topics, I started using motion sensors, Arduino programming, motors, projectors with a combination of traditional art forms. From here my interest in new technology developed.

After completing my education, I founded my own company called ArtLab Studio ( https://www.artlab.in/ ) in 2014. This studio is involved in commissioning projects like Public art, installation, and wall art. Where I learnt project management, ideation, and tried my hands on interactive artworks. By that time my fascination with the amalgamation of contemporary mediums with the traditional ones increased. "

In touch with the deeper reality of my unconscious; I paint my dreams. I portray the gruesome reality in which we live in. As the reality isn’t a rosy picture with a very pleasurable experience, so are my works devoid of an aesthetic appeal that would please the senses. As an artist who is a part of society, it is rather difficult to remain unaffected by the happenings around me. The number of rape cases and cases of violence against women is disturbing as well as eye-opening. It makes one question the deceiving concept of equality between genders which leads me to depict the prevailing hypocrisy in our society in a crude manner. The way a woman is looked at and must be questioned. My process involves a binary of spontaneity and a well laid out plan. On one hand, I am spontaneous with regard to the subject of my artwork. I work on an autonomous principle wherein something which affects me deeply and strikes a chord with my personal experience pushes me to express myself.

My attempt is to reflect on the gruesome realities of life by using surreal human figures, distorted human anatomy, and mutated organs and faces. Sometimes, I depict headless human bodies with dissected or contorted genitals to portray the horrid emotions or violent reactions of human beings in response to their surroundings. The idea is to focus on the inequalities and social malice faced by people in anticipation to suggest a change. The deformed figures assaulting each other, or actively engaging in violent acts work as metaphors for the ugliness and hideousness of the human mind caught in social hierarchies. My works may appear to have a frightening, disturbing and perhaps a disgusting impact on the audience who views them, for that is the intention. It is what it is – the hard, brutal reality of our day and age, whether we choose to accept it or ignore it.

On the other hand, the process of execution is very important to me. The process is a journey which I undertake myself in order to feel the same numbing pain which might’ve been inflicted upon somebody else. Exploration of a medium is important to me. This may include a painting or canvas or a video projection on an actual body part of a living being preserved with chemicals. I choose the process as well as the medium based on the content and demands of my work.
